Living The Life

Living the Life, this is what we all do till the day we die, because after all as the saying goes, “dying is the day worth living for”. Call your life a failure or a success, whether you are rich or poor, it doesn’t matter because at the end of the day, in whatever conditions and circumstances you ARE living the life.

Let’s talk about my life, started about two decades ago; the first thing I noticed around me was my family. And to be honest till today, my family is the important thing for me. Growing up with a caring and lovely parents and having a fine childhood may not be a thing worthy to be noticed by many of us, but lets stop for a moment and think about the people of countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia or Ethiopia. There half of the children are born orphan or loose their parents even before they even learn to say dad and mom. Let it be the war we have imposed on them or the hunger and lack of basic necessities of life, they are living the life they have, so I have to be grateful for that and I am.

Moving on, I grew up, went to school, college and eventually university where I am today. This educational journey of mine has been a relative smooth one with few hiccups, but that is part of everyone life. Lets start with the school, I got into a well reputed school, played in kindergarten, had crushes on my teachers, took part in debates and stage plays, had crushes on class fellows and finally walked out of the school with my head high and me booming with pride.

And then I entered college, the turning point of any student’s educational life. The point where choose which field you are going to work for rest of your life, you have to score good grades, get into some reputable university for your masters. I did this all, planned it, and tried to act accordingly with it. Though it didn’t go the way I wanted but still I managed to survive.

So, I entered the university, full of new dreams and plans, and till now I guess I have been on the right track. Life here has been good, what lies next is a mystery and there is no point over worrying over things you don’t know. The future looks uncertain as it always been.

So this is the life I had live up till now, had learned a lot willingly or unwillingly but the point I would like to emphasize is that I learnt it from people and from my experiences. I believe learning shouldn’t be restricted to books only. Just look at the list of successful men in this world, how many of them are graduates let aside Masters or PhDs. Look at our first learning experience, we didn’t learn to smile or clap or how to eat or wash our hands from any book, it was our mom who taught us. As we grew older, our dad took us to shopping, told us how the car and airplane works, we learned how to dress or make our hair style probably from our elder brother. We learned how to share things like stationary and lunch boxes from our friends. Even we learned about the power and value of money after hearing chants of bagger on the road. There is only one thing common in all above incidents and that these were people whom from we learnt from. Yes, education plays part in your life, yes it gets you a good job, yes it gets you new car and house, but it isn’t essential that still it makes you a successful man.

If you want to live a life of successful man then it’s a lot more than making money and living in luxury. Surly it gets you the most comfortable bed to sleep on or the latest car to drive, but what I believe is that a successful man is the one who sets a target whatever it is and then achieves it. The divine saying is “Man will get only what he has strived for”. The bitter truth is that success isn’t measured ever and there is no criterion, yet I have learnt that it is the best feeling in the world to achieve for which you had worked for.
So, after all these years, I believe I didn’t ask for the life what I was given, simply because nobody can ask for it, but what I know is that I did my best with it or at least I tried my best. This life had been a journey for me where I lost and gained, learned and was being taught, fell and rose again. So if you simply ask me what it had been, the one word answer I’ll like to give is, it was a: Test.

  1. There are two kinds of people i've come across in Pakistan; First, the ones who dream, set goals, and have ambition, but don't put the sweat and blood to achieve those aims. Second, are the ones who do all the hard work in school, and set very narrow goals (like getting an A in a course, getting a job in a bank etc), and these are the ones who see opportunities fly by them, and fail to grasp those opportunities. The difficult part (and which is where most people trip) is striking a balance between goals and hard work.

Though a balance is absolutely essential, if i were asked which one is ranked higher, i would say goals, since when you don't put in the input required to achieve those goals, you get disappointed, and this feelign of failure often leads to finding the solution for achieving that very dream - which is hardwork!

So dream, set goals, have tons of ambition and invest all you got in achieving those goals!

As Gary Player said "The harder i work, the luckier i get" - It all boils down to this very quote!

  2. Well in my view goals are surly important, hardwork is always the key to success but may be i m one of those who like to move step by step, like u mentioned setting small goals and then acheiving it and then moving for higher aims..

  3. u said ur life is a test...but how r u striving to succeed in that test..you are just sailing along...

    ReplyDelete
  4. well a valid question but you see i didnt just sail along as much as it appears here..i mean sometimes i had to take a step back..but that was again due to the fact that sometimes you just need to get one step back to move two step ahead..meaning that sometime you have to strong and sometime just let it happen..

  10. hmmm... you mention that u've learned most from the people around you and yet predominantly u've mentioned your educational journey. Surely, life "tested" you outside the academics. And i agree with sehar here, the part where she mentions sailing along... this way, whether we are living to our maximum or slopping through life: we are all living it! Goals and ambitions catalyze the hard work we put into things and makes the difference between livin in a villa or on the streets!

Also one more factor that i would like mention here is that the social status is what gives one the initial push in life... We dont live in a society providing equal opportunities to everyone, bitter it sure is, but true!

  11. Yes, i do believe that, we always learn all about the principles of trust, honestly and sincerity, evil and good in our textbooks but until you actually experience it..you can never know what it feels like in real...thats the learning i believe in..mostly the great men of all time learnt from their environment..you still can be Bill Gates even after being a Harvard drop out..but you cant be Bill Gates by just passing Harvard...

As now you mentioned, i just pinpointed this fact in the very first paragraph were i said
"Living the Life, this is what we all do till the day we die, because after all as the saying goes, “dying is the day worth living for”. Call your life a failure or a success, whether you are rich or poor, it doesn’t matter because at the end of the day, in whatever conditions and circumstances you ARE living the life."

For me that idealistic society doesnt exists anywhere in this world..man is materialistic today and leg pulling and de-crediting is one of the basic concepts of today..

  12. i think one of the ways to achieve success is to acknowledge your friends and family who help u in achieving ur dreams, like you have done ! Most Pakistanis seem to have ego problem or something and are like "g sara humari he mehnat hai." The more u acknowledge someone, the more likely they are also going to help in future.

  13. wow.
    this is amazing.
i've never read something so touching, so convincing like this.
and I say convincing because you've convinced me that even though we have some problems we can solve them. & that Life is a test.
i was speechless after i read this.
    it's wonderful, really.
    congratulations!

  15. "If you want to live a life of successful man then it’s a lot more than making money and living in luxury
only if people understood this phenomenon.
This has to be the smartest thing you said in teh entire blog. Seriously!
living life , as i see it, is just not about getting luxeries...it's about using your potentials to teh maximum.
for that you first need to know what potentials there are in you..
just like you stated here " I believe is that a successful man is the one who sets a target whatever it is and then achieves it"

so at teh end of the day its all about achieving your goals and reaching a stage where you get teh feeling of fullfillment.

I like teh way you have the feeling when u say " I know is that I did my best with it or at least I tried my best."
There is content reflecting in that statement which i really really like :)

and finally "This life had been a journey for me where I lost and gained, learned and was being taught, fell and rose again."
    Bahut alla !
    :D
all in all a really cool blog post.
    good work mani :D
    Keep it up!
